How you and your business can have a ‘Hot Girl Summer’ this year!
Here comes the sun
I’ve heard the phrase ‘hot girl summer’ being bandied about recently and I’m not going to lie I had to google what it meant. Just in case you didn’t know, it’s a phrase that has been coined by the rapper Megan Thee Stallion (still none the wiser? Me either!!) and it means being confident, having fun and not caring what others think. Now that I can get on board with!
The Summer months can bring a new energy and potential opportunities for growth, but it can also be a hectic time with lots of social events, kids to keep entertained over the school holidays and the lack of routine can soon take its toll on any chances of you making it to the gym or eating a balanced diet. Chances are you’re also planning some time away from your business, and whilst that sounds like the dream, we all know that it can be difficult to completely let go of the reins and get the break you desperately need.
But what if it didn’t have to be that way?
What if you could take some simple steps now to make sure that your health and business goals don’t come to a standstill over the summer.
Follow these top tips and embrace the ‘hot girl’ approach of being confident, having fun and not caring what others think. It could be just what you need to propel your wellbeing and your business and make sure you thrive this summer instead of just survive.
Top tips for a ‘hot girl summer’ for you and your business
1. Preparation is the key to success
Make the most of the summer by doing some essential planning now. Planning your wellbeing and business goals simultaneously means you can better manage your time, avoid burnout, and create a positive work-life balance. Take some time to reflect on your business objectives for the next quarter - identifying key projects, deadlines and opportunities will help you plan your time accordingly.
You should also consider your health and well-being goals. Whether it is increasing your fitness, improving your self-care routine or making more time to spend with friends and family, spending some time planning how you’re going to achieve that now will mean you are less likely to be distracted from your goals over the summer break.
2. Embrace the lack of routine
We all know that once school is out, routine goes out the window. If you’re going to be having days out or spending more time away from the office your diet doesn’t have to suffer. Research local restaurants or grocery stores that offer nutritious options or if you have access to a kitchen, consider prepping some meals in advance or packing healthy snacks so that you can still make progress towards your health goals. Making sure you continue to eat a healthy balanced diet despite the lack of routine will also keep your energy levels high so you’re ready to face anything that the summer throws at you.
3. Prioritise you
As a solo female business owner, your wellbeing is the foundation of your success. Without you there is no business! You should prioritise self-care practices that focus on both your physical and your mental health. Set aside time for regular exercise, eat nourishing meals, and ensure you get enough restful sleep. Spend time engaging in activities that bring you joy and help you recharge, such as reading, spending time in nature, or practicing meditation. Remember, when you take care of yourself, you enhance your productivity, creativity, and your overall satisfaction with both your personal and professional life.
4. Set and communicate boundaries
If you are taking a step back from your business over the summer, clearly communicate your availability and boundaries to your clients and other important stakeholders. Let them know when and how you can be reached and establish guidelines for any urgent matters. Likewise, if you set aside time to work over the summer make sure your family members are aware so they can give you the time and space you need to smash that to-do list. Being clear with everyone, including yourself, on your boundaries will allow you to be more present in both your business and your personal life and helps to stop the lines becoming blurred.
5. Establish healthy habits now
Establishing healthy habits now will mean you are better equipped to maintain them during the summer break. Using your time away establish or reinforce healthy habits that contribute to your overall well-being means that you can return to work feeling recharged and refreshed. Why not take advantage of the summer weather to engage in outdoor activities, spend time in nature, enjoy more movement or explore new hobbies.
6. Make the most of your workspace
Creating an inspiring and efficient workspace is crucial for productivity. Why not try revamping your office or workspace by decluttering, organising supplies, and adding things that reflect your personality and goals. Integrating natural light, plants, and soothing colours can enhance the mood in your workspace and boost your creativity. A well-designed workspace can also have a significant impact on your motivation, focus, and overall work satisfaction.
7. Delegate, delegate, delegate
As a solo female entrepreneur, it’s easy to fall into the trap of doing everything yourself. Summer is an ideal time to reassess your workload and consider delegating or outsourcing tasks that can be handled by others. Whether it’s administrative work, marketing, or customer support, outsourcing can help you free up valuable time and energy to focus on your core business activities, as well as take care of your own personal wellbeing. This not only ensures the smooth running of your business but it allows you to step away with peace of mind.
8. Automate and streamline processes
Give yourself permission to disconnect from work during your break by using technology to your advantage and automating or streamlining processes. Implementing tools such as project management software, automating email responses, using social media scheduling apps or investing in an online booking system could mean the difference between you spending your holiday hunting for the best WIFI spot and relaxing on the beach with a good book.
Using technology to your advantage now also means that you can use your break to properly disconnect and recharge. Unplugging from your screen will allow you to fully focus on your time away, prioritise quality time with loved ones and indulge in those activities you might not always have the time for at home.
What are you waiting for?
In conclusion, as a solo female entrepreneur you have a unique opportunity to thrive over the summer by making some small changes to the way you manage your health and your business. Don’t wait for summer to get here though, do some mindful planning and prioritisation NOW so that you not only do you continue to make progress with your health and business goals but so you can also enjoy the hot girl summer you deserve.
